Downtown Ottawa and its surrounding neighbourhoods offer everything that you could possibly hope to find. Super modern infill housing and historic century-old homes sit amongst every size, shape and layout of condo that you can imagine. Fine dining, hidden foodie favourites, a vibrant nightlife, the National Art Gallery and the National Arts Centre highlight some of what one can get out and do in Canada’s capital city.

In Centretown and Lower Town, residents and tourists alike flock to the Byward Market, Chateau Laurier and Rideau Canal. In the Glebe and Old Ottawa South, the shops, cafes and restaurants of Bank Street, as well as the new Landsdowne development with state of the art movie theatre, farmer’s market and great restaurants, draw visitors from all over the city. In Sandy Hill, Ottawa University students and embassies sit in architecturally gorgeous homes nestled amongst parks and fun-to-find neighbourhood hangouts. In Hintonburg and Mechanicsville, the dining scene is as good as Ottawa’s got, and the walkability to anything and everything a homeowner may need is second to none.

From its roots as a logging hub in what was once the world’s most productive logging area, Bytown and then Ottawa grew to become one of North America’s most beautiful cities. Parliament Hill sits at the north end of the centre of Ottawa and looks out over the Ottawa River. Following Bank Street south from Parliament Hill, the neighbourhoods of the Glebe and Old Ottawa South have a rich and storied history and have been for decades, some of Ottawa’s most sought after neighbourhoods. One of Ottawa’s first suburbs, the Glebe was built on the former church lands of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, starting in the 1870s. Stone and brick homes in this area show an architectural style that is virtually exclusive to these neighbourhoods. Part American Craftsman, part English Victorian and part rural Ontario and Quebec homestead, the beauty of these homes, set between the Ottawa River and Rideau Canal, is hard to overstate.

To the west of downtown, the area of Hintonburg has seen its brick and stone homes bring a revival to this great neighbourhood too. Desirable among young professionals, Hintonburg has become a spot to see what the latest is, and be seen doing it. The community gives off a modest vibe, but with all of the amenities one could want, Wellington Village in Hintonburg boasts amazing restaurants and shops as well as the Great Canadian Theatre Company, nothing is left lacking in this great little part of Ottawa.
